Sprig Pinot Noir 2009
Wine profile
This Pinot Noir has delicious aromas of roasted plum, blackberry and spice. Spiced fruits, earthy mushroom and smokey flavours mingle, with lingering oak.
Viticulture
All the grapes for this Pinot Noir come from the Bouldevines vineyard on Dog Point Road in Marlborough. The 2009 vintage was one of our best, with continuing fine weather. The Pinot Noir had more time than usual to slowly ripen on the vine, developing lovely tannins and intense flavours.
Winemaking
We destemmed the fruit into small vats, holding the skin and juice at 10°C for 72 hours. Fermentation was warm at over 30°C to extract tannin and colour from the skins. We plunged the cap four times a day. After fermentation, we let the wine stay on skins for four more days. It was then gently pressed and settled in tank before being transferred to oak barrels for 10 months, which included malolactic fermentation.
